In June, the information session of the RISE (Reinforcing Integration through Sponsorship Enhancement) community sponsorship project was held in Klaipėda. The event, co-organised by the International Organization for Migration (IOM Lithuania) and International House Klaipėda, brought together representatives of different communities in Klaipėda, volunteers and representatives of local NGOs interested in contributing to community sponsorship in Lithuania.

During the event, the RISE project, its goals, activities and opportunities to contribute to the integration of refugees and migrants by becoming a volunteer sponsor – a person or a family helping refugees to start a new life in Lithuania – were presented. Participants shared personal examples, discussed challenges and what motivates them to create a more open and welcoming society.

“We are glad that there are people in Klaipėda who want to get involved in community sponsorship. This is a sign that solidarity and empathy are not entirely novel concepts to communities in Klaipėda,” said the representatives of IOM Lithuania.
