On July 11, an infosession about the RISE project was held at the Reception and Integration Agency in Naujininkai for refugees living in Lithuania.
The project “Reinforcing integration through sponsorship enhancement (RISE)” is a community sponsorship initiative that aims to help people fleeing war and other crises not only to reach Lithuania safely, but also to settle down successfully and start a new phase in their lives.
The essence of the project is human connection, which creates security, support, and trust. During RISE project initiatives, refugees can be paired with community sponsors. Community sponsors are local volunteers who help refugees orient themselves in their new environment, find essential services, understand the local culture, and deal with practical challenges.
During the event, participants:
- Heard a presentation of the project by representatives of the International Organization for Migration;
- Learned what kind of assistance they can expect;
- Discussed the most common topics of everyday life in Lithuania: from housing and job searches to health services and raising children;
- Heard how sponsors can help with document translation, opening a bank account, emotional support, or simply being there.
After the official part of the event, participants were invited to a clay workshop. This was not only a creative activity, but also a great opportunity to socialize informally, share stories and experiences, and for some, to experience a sense of community in Lithuania for the first time.
The event was attended by foreigners from various countries – asylum seekers, beneficiaries, and persons under temporary protection. These foreigners living in Lithuania are interested in participating in the project, seeking human connection, understanding, and support.
“I was really surprised – people here are very friendly. It’s nice to know that you’re not alone,” said one participant.
